Hi Parents, and Welcome to the Cal Poly Pomona Family!
As your student begins or continues on their journey through college, they may explore the possibility of joining a sorority. If you're like many parents, you have a lot of questions about what sorority life has to offer your child, and this page is designed to help introduce you to the Panhellenic community at Cal Poly Pomona. We hope you encourage your child to consider the benefits of Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment!
Will my child have time for school and work if they join a sorority?
- The Greek Community at Cal Poly Pomona realizes that joining a community is a time commitment, but we value Academics as a college student's main priority. There will be many activities that a Panhellenic Sorority Woman may participate in: philanthropies and community service events, sisterhood events, fraternity exchanges, formal events, and Greek Week. In addition to the many friends you can make, you will have a network and chapter resources to help aid your academic success. You will notice that many Panhellenic Sorority Members manage a schedule of school, work, family, and sorority on a day-to-day basis, but participation in activities is ultimately up to each individual.
Do your sororities have housing?
- At this time, there are no chapter houses for any of the sororities at Cal Poly Pomona. If Students wish to seek information about on-campus housing, you should visit Cal Poly Pomona's University Housing Website.
Does Panhellenic promote education on social issues?
- Each sorority has programming to promote education on various social issues which include: Women's issues, Service, Scholarship, and GAMMA (Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol.) In addition, the Panhellenic Council and Greek Council often address the Panhellenic and Greek community as a whole on these issues during a Quarterly gathering.
What is Cal Poly Pomona's policy on Hazing?
- Cal Poly Pomona has a strict No Hazing Policy. Hazing is in violation of Panhellenic and Greek Counncil's policies, Cal Poly Pomona's policies, and statutes of the State of California. In addition, the National Organizations behind each Panhellenic Chapter on campus prohibits any activities that may be deemed as Hazing. Each sorority has a membership education period where they learn more about their chapter through programming and events.
The National Panhellenic Conference has launched a website that can answer many common questions and disspell rumors or misinterpretations about Sorority Life. Check them out at Sorority Life.
